ADVANCED DESIGN B
Prof: Josue Robles
GROVE PARK, LONDON:
To begin our studio, before we were given any information on the project, the site, or any program requirements, we were instructed to research from a list of architects and analyze a few buildings, specifically housing projects, that we found interesting or compelling. We used the examples we found as references throughout our design process and learned through this process how to ‘unpack’ the details that we like so much. With these precedent studies under our belts we were told to start creating midsize and micro housing units and to break down boundaries. I wanted to focus on making the kitchen and living space very connected to the outside as well as integrating greenery into mundane every day activities. After we finalized our units we flew to London and worked with the Bartlett for their Summer DPU program. We focused on a small part of London called Grove Park. Our basic requirements were an apartment building with 20-25 units, a health facility that can focus on anything we would like, and a public green space. I wanted to be able to introduce green space vertically. I was inspired by the urban rigger project to give an offset nature to my building creating large voids to allow for green space on those floors. each floor has three apartments, ranging in size, allowing for the area that the fourth would have taken up for these green spaces.
